Astralinks began in 1997 when Craig Beckett, Astralinks’ Managing Director, returned to Australia after several years working in SNG services in Europe.  Craig saw a need for a high quality SNG service provider in the Australian market and after a couple of years back in Australia, Craig quit his job to start Astralinks.

Craig engineered and built his first kit - a Ku-band flyway based on a secondhand Advent Mantis antenna - and Astralinks’ first job was a horseracing event for Sky Racing in Inverell, NSW. Since then, Astralinks has grown to provide quality SNG services at a range of major news and sporting stories.  These include an extended stay in East Timor during its move towards independence from Indonesia and various important Australian sporting events such as the Sydney Olympics, the 2003 Rugby World Cup and numerous AFL, NRL and V8 Supercar events.

Ten years after that first horseracing event, Astralinks has grown into a thriving business with a fleet of two well equipped, fully-redundant uplink trucks and one flyaway.  Astralinks has established its reputation as a leading SNG services provider in Australia by providing sound technical knowledge and personal service to its many domestic and international customers.

Craig Beckett – Managing Director, Astralinks

Craig Beckett

Craig Beckett has been working in television for more than 25 years.  He has extensive television technical experience both in Master Control work and SNG services.  After working in the television industry in Australia (for such companies as Channel Nine Perth and Network Ten Perth), Craig left to work as a satellite engineer for Sky News UK, where he covered such breaking news stories as the conflict in the Balkans, the 1992 UK general election and several tours of duty in Northern Ireland during the troubles.

Craig returned to Australia in 1995 and took up a management position with the fledgling pay television operator Foxtel. During that time he saw a hole in the market in Australia for a satellite newsgathering service provider.  He left full time work in 1997 to set up Astralinks.

Craig - using his technical knowledge and customer-comes-first attitude - has built Astralinks into the SNG provider of choice for the television industry in Australia.  His customers know that his services are technically top-notch but always personalised to their needs.
